Buying any type of stock involves taking a risk, however, smaller companies are usually just starting out and have no proven reputation of being a strong company, so it is pretty much a shot in the dark for investors.
Though many experienced investors tend to not look at smaller companies with micro cap stocks, they can be a very effective way of building cash within the stock market at a very low price to start out.
